Editor's Notes
Slapton Sands is a three-mile shingle barrier beach separating Start Bay from Slapton Ley, the largest natural freshwater lake in south-west England. In 1944 it was the scene of Exercise Tiger, a disastrous D-Day rehearsal commemorated by the Sherman tank memorial at Torcross.
