Editor's Notes
A shingle bay enclosed by the White Cliffs between Dover and Deal, St Margaret's is the closest point in Britain to France and the traditional starting beach for cross-Channel swimmers. Noël Coward once owned the house at the beach's end, later home to James Bond creator Ian Fleming.
